Nacht Engel

One of the more exciting topics with players taking on roles of authors in East Germany, attempting to push the boundaries of their art in a totalitarian state. What would the communist Philip K. Dick be like?

The really interesting thing that this playset explores is the relationship between art and dictatorship. In a free society we tend to be scornful of the pretensions of art and artists, but in a repressive society the act of creation is subversive and dangerous. Nacht Engel focuses on a group of writers who are meeting in the evenings to discuss literature and attempt to create their own. It ends with the characters being hauled away by the secret police for interrogation.
